Hyatt Accounting Manager - Capital Expenditure in CHICAGO, Illinois


Summary Hyatt Hotels Corporation seeks a self-motivated professional accountant to join its Finance organization as a Manager within the Corporate Accounting team. The primary responsibility of this position is the direct oversight of three Senior Construction Accountants and one shared managerial responsibility over a Senior CIP Accountant. Oversight includes construction accounting and also covers the accountants’ assigned processes within the Hyatt monthly and quarterly close processes. Responsibilities include ensuring proper review of contracts, construction draws, capital expenditure cash flow reporting, capitalization of appropriate costs, cost segregations, journal entries, and monthly and quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations, across all Hyatt entities.

Additional responsibilities include the evaluation and development of the Seniors in the organization so that they may grow as professionals and elevate to higher levels of responsibility. Moreover, the Manager will be expected to identify process improvements and manage the teams to ensure the projects are successfully executed. Finally, the Manager is expected to serve as a customer service point of contact for the Construction and Business Unit Finance groups that are supported by his/her team and to proactively engage them in strategic discussions as to how to improve the level of accounting’s service.


  • Review of complex monthly journal entries prepared by senior and staff accountants.

  • Review of high risk balance sheet account reconciliations prepared by senior and accountants.

  • Review of monthly analytics over significant account balances which have been prepared by the senior and staff accountants.

  • Review of quarterly internal and external reporting schedules, including capital expenditure cash flow reporting.

  • Field and resolve inquiries from management and external auditors.

  • Contribute to compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, including documentation of process areas and testing of key controls.

  • Establish and maintain accounting relationships with the Construction, Business Unit Finance, and Asset Management groups.

  • Identify and drive improvements to processes in their organization that will result in reductions to financial exposure and increases in efficiency.

  • Manage the fixed asset process as it relates to Construction In Process (CIP) for our owned hotels in accordance with Hyatt’s Accounting Policies and US GAAP.

  • Review of draw requests, change orders, contracts, purchase orders or other documentation and support for global construction projects.


Experience - 5-7 years of experience in corporate accounting and/or public accounting. - Supervisory responsibilities or other experience that requires ensuring the quality of work delivered by other individuals. - Previous experience with the real estate and/or construction industry preferred.

Education - Bachelor’s degree in accounting - Master’s degree in accounting

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - CPA – Certified Public Accountant – preferred, but not required

Computer Skills Needed to Perform this Job - Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office - Experience with financial ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
